Winter can take a lot out of you and your car. Just like you need heavier clothing and outerwear, your car benefits by a few tweaks as well. Here are five key winter car prep and care tips our Harbin Chevrolet team think you should know.
Change Your Tires
If you don't have all-season or winter tires, consider investing in some. Winter tires have particular flexibility, tread depth and design to enhance traction on cold, icy roads.
Keep Tire Pressure on Point
Monitor your tire pressure weekly to anticipate fluctuations. Less-than-perfect pressure wears out your tires and compromises their ability to maintain traction.
Apply Some Wax
Give your car's exterior an application of polymer wax. It seals your car's precious paint job, protecting it from deep cold, salt, grime, and ice.
Keep Windshield Wipers Raised
If you routinely park outdoors during winter, keep your windshield wipers in the raised position. This prevents them from icing over and sticking to your windshield. Also, use a proper ice scraper to remove ice from your windshield, not your windshield wiper blades.
Maintain a Half-Full Fuel Tank
Just in case you end up stuck in Scottsboro, a half-full tank of fuel may be just the ticket. If you have to wait for repairs or to picked up, the fuel can at least help to keep you warm while you wait.
