If you're driving down the road and your brake pedal feels mushy, it may be time to stop by a mechanic. ASE Certification is important because, without it, there's no way of knowing whether or not the technician knows what they are doing. But what does that mean?
What is ASE Certification?
ASE stands for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. They are an independent organization that evaluates and certifies automotive specialists across the United States, Canada, and Latin America on their knowledge of vehicle technology. The testing involves specific information from manufacturers made available to them about each particular vehicle model. Each year, the ASE Foundation revises the test preparation manual to keep up with changes in technology.
The testing is done on a computer in an exam room. Each technician will be given two and a half hours to answer questions, most of which are multiple-choice. The tests have been created to simulate the time pressures that technicians face in real-life situations.
