You wouldn't be able to operate your vehicle properly without a working exhaust system. Your exhaust system and muffler are important components of your automobile, and the friendly staff at Harbin Chevrolet want you to understand how they work and why they are so important.

Unless you drive a fully electric car, the engine uses a combustion system to create energy to make the car go, and that creates gases as a byproduct. Your exhaust system has several components that work in concert to capture those gases and funnel them out of your car through the tailpipe.

In the process of generating all of that energy, your engine makes loud sounds, and your muffler is there to literally "muffle" those sounds. When your engine's pistons and valves are moving and expel gases into the exhaust system, it creates loud noises that would be a nuisance if not for the work of your muffler.
